I have been in the care industry since leaving school in 1994 where I joined a Nursing Home staff bank subsequently joining Allied Healthcare in 2001 where I started off doing weekend work for them. I became full time with Allied in 2003 when I joined the office team working as an Establishment Consultant. I was responsible for managing a desk of around 300 hours a week in Medway providing staff in Nursing Homes, Residential Homes and the NHS. By 2004 I had grown the work within Branch to 800 – 900 hours a week which involved developing new areas of business in areas such as Learning Disabilities and Continuing Health Care with Medway & West Kent PCT looking after adults and children with complex care needs.
I carried out Job Fairs and was responsible for the whole recruitment process of staff on my desk making sure the selection and candidates were suitable for the job roles I had to fill. I was responsible for staff compliance and making sure all staff was working in line to Allied Healthcare’s strict audit standards. I also carried out on call during the week and once every four weeks at the weekend to maintain an in-house on call system providing 24 hr telephone service for all clients. In 2005 I took over as Branch Manager of the Chatham branch and I ensure that my business is operated and administered to the highest standards. I ensure all client and staff records are kept to company standard and that all my staff follows Allied Healthcare’s robust recruitment process. As well as the day to day running of the branch and branch staff I make sure we follow our Policies and that good practice is encouraged particularly in areas such as Health & Safety, equal opportunities, and the observance of client’s rights and wishes. My branch staff and I undertake yearly training the same as the care staff as I feel it’s important to know what they learn and have an insight into what they do on a daily basis. Below is some of the training I have attended over the course of my employment:
Level 4 Leadership & Management for Care Services
Safe Food Hygiene
First Aid & BLS
Moving & Handling
Health Safety & Fire Prevention
Dementia (with Dementia UK)
PREVENT –Referrals Training
Mental Capacity Act Level 1 – 2
Management of Medications
Care Plan & Risk Assessment
Various In House Courses with Allied
At present the Chatham branch currently run 1,900 hours a week within the following care settings such as Private Home Care, Home Care for Medway Social Services, Medway PCT, Dartford PCT, Nursing Homes, Residential Units, Children’s Care, Learning Disabilities and Challenging Behaviour units as well as covering Live In work for some of the other 129 branches within Allied Group.
I have 101 care staff working at Chatham and some of my staff has been with me since 2004 if not longer and I’m very pleased they have stayed with me for so long as excellent carers are the core of the business. I have 3 full time office staff and a flexible field based resource that support the running of the business:
Larna Savil – Domiciliary consultant in post since 2004
Emma Wiltshire – Establishment Consultant in post since 2010
Mel Smith – Recruitment & Compliance in post since 2009
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read the above and will look forward to hearing from you and working with you in the future
